I can't tell you how sick I am of seeing the endless sea of shirtless hunks posing with a wolf on the cover schtick all over the store. It draws the reader's eye, its simplistic, and still gives a hint to what it's about. And can I just point out the cover art for a second? I absolutely love it. That being said, it's definitely still unique. This book has great character and story development, though I have read books before with similar plots. It was a wonderful break from some of the other mediocre shifter content out there, and while it does have some sexually explicit content (which was also written quite well), it's not the primary focus which I liked. It fits perfectly with the shifter theme, helps the reader connect to the raw and base emotions the wolves feel, and creates a sense of urgency. The author expertly uses repetition, run-ons, and short staccato like sentences which most authors would avoid like the plague. The style the author used is what made this book. Colin is well known for his scams, and Hunter doesn't want to see her and her son hurt. Hunter was dismayed when he finds out about his grandfather's offer. When she received a message from her grandfather's old mining partner offering part of his Montana ranch in exchange for her claim on an old gold mine, she couldn't wait to check it out. Scarlett is recently divorced from a husband who turned out to be a drug dealer and is ready for a new start. Sweet romance with a slight bit of suspense to it. NORTH TO DRY CREEK: The road to Alaska is paved with love But surprisingly it's the future that intrigues Hunter most…if he can get Scarlett to make him her groom. Or is he running one of his legendary scams on the sweet single mom? A trip to Dry Creek, Alaska, reveals the truth-and brings Hunter and Scarlett face-to-face with a past family feud and a vulnerable present. The lone cowboy is certain that's what the old man is doing when he trades part of their Montana ranch for Scarlett Murphy's claim to an old Alaska gold mine. Hunter Jacobson wants no part of his grandfather's matchmaking. Showalter has been very influential - her work is a delight to read - but try to develop a critical approach to her approach and conclusions. We will home in on some of those 'critical periods' as well as exploring ideas about the impact of women's lives and social condition on their mental wellbeing. This seminar engages critically with this literature and also raises the issue of female agency – did women form alliances with their doctors, did they use medical diagnoses and labels (such as hysteria) for their own purposes, and did they even shape the views of those treating them? Female adolescence and the onset of menstruation was regarded as a particularly vulnerable period, as was the childbearing epoch and menopause. Rather less has been produced on masculinity and mental breakdown though this is changing. The apparent association between female biology and reproduction and mental disorder has been a particularly rich area of analysis, as has interest in hysteria which emerged as something of a professional obsession in the 19 th century. Numerous historians have engaged themselves with the question of whether psychiatry, particularly 19 th-century psychiatry, discriminated against women, or at least singled women out as especially vulnerable to being categorised as mentally ill and confined in asylums. I admit that I wanted to like this more than I did simply because I am a big fan of Kindred. Her papers are held in the research collection of the Huntington Library. Butler died of a stroke at the age of 58. She also taught writer's workshops, and eventually relocated to Washington state. Her books and short stories drew the favorable attention of the public and awards judges. She soon sold her first stories and by the late 1970s had become sufficiently successful as an author that she was able to pursue writing full-time. She attended community college during the Black Power movement, and while participating in a local writer's workshop was encouraged to attend the Clarion Workshop, which focused on science fiction. She began writing science fiction as a teenager. Extremely shy as a child, Octavia found an outlet at the library reading fantasy, and in writing. In 1995, she became the first science fiction writer to receive the MacArthur Foundation "Genius" Grant.Īfter her father died, Butler was raised by her widowed mother. That idea carries through in the on-set meltdowns that stack up during the production of The Room. The film heavily implies that Wiseau is attracted to his best friend, and when Sestero starts dating a bartender (Allison Brie), James Franco plays Wiseau’s outbursts as adolescent attempts at masking a real sense of rejection. Those elements make the movie version of Wiseau more than just a one-off joke. He nails the filmmaker’s odd voice and awkward mannerisms, but also brings a charm and fragility to the part. The centerpiece is James Franco’s turn as Wiseau, and it is a hilarious, committed performance. The Disaster Artist is fantastically entertaining, and not just for the litany of The Room Easter eggs (though those are certainly there, both in the form of drive-by references and shot-for-shot scene re-creations).
